Hello

This year’s pay and conditions claim has been put to the Company and negotiations are expected to follow shortly.

The Company are looking to finish early for Christmas – see attached.

This week 24 – 28 October 2011 is the European H&S Week and the theme is safe maintenance.

Vacancies still exist for shop stewards for both the press and MSS from either Mech or Elec – please see me if interested for more info.

Jimmy Bradley has agreed to leave the Company in order to concentrate on his health.  We wish him well for the future.

We are in the process of arranging courses in both IT and Spanish in our Learning Centre.  The IT is scheduled to start in January 2012.  We hope to accommodate other classes for the less popular choices in time.

The Company has changed its Fire Evacuation and Emergency Policy.  They now want shop floor Fire Wardens (that were the responsibility of supervision) to help manage such situations without any discussion or reward.  Fire fighting training for maintenance staff will nevertheless be ongoing.

There have been a number of occasions of strong odours coming from our Degrease Tank which can affect eyes/nose/throat etc and in some instances nausea.  These are currently being monitored but please report any instances to management/H&S Officer or Union Rep preferably via email.

Both John Tattersall and Colin Wilson have retired from continuing as our Member Nominated Pension Trustees.  We would like to thank them for all their time and effort.  Two vacancies therefore exist but the Company/Trustees are insisting on there being two constituencies, one to represent the staff members and one to represent the payroll members.  I have complained about this as it should be the best two candidates regardless of their standing in the Company.  Unfortunately the internal procedures have been exhausted without any success so things have now been passed on to The Pensions Advisory Service for their considerations.  As I did not want to stand against Tony Murray I withdrew my application under protest but will keep you informed of developments.

The dates for the next 5 years’ Shutdowns are attached.

               TUC Riske attached x 6.

               Unite H&S attached x 2.

Thanks.

Bob.
